Dr. Jose Yamamoto

Dr. Jose Yamamoto, or Joe Yam as many people fondly call him, is a Thoracic and Cardiovascular surgeon who has been practicing for decades. He graduated Magna cum Laude from the University of Santo Tomas Faculty of Medicine and Surgery. 

After passing his medical boards, he finished his general surgical residency in UST Hospital. Thereafter he took up additional years of surgery training in the United States as a General Surgery resident in New York and subspecialty in Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery in Houston, Texas. In 1988 and 1989, he spent additional time as Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery Fellow in Washington DC, focusing on Coronary Artery Disease Surgery and Heart Transplantation.

Coming back from his training in the United States, Dr. Joe applied for the Faculty in his Alma Mater, the University of Santo Tomas. Rising from the ranks of teaching, he became an Associate Professor in the Department of Surgery for many years helping to mold the younger generation of physicians.

He is a fellow in several renowned institutions including the Philippine College of Surgeons, the American College of Surgeons, the American College of Cardiology and the Philippine Heart Association He has also been Past President of the Philippine Association of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgeons (PATACSI). He is renowned in his field and has been part of many groundbreaking milestones, including participation in the first successful heart transplant in the Philippines in 1994.,  

Apart from his pursuit of excellence in his career, he has also been very passionate about his service in Couples for Christ. Together with his wife, Dr. Milagros Yamamoto, they have been respected members of this community since 1985.

Dr. Joe Yam continues to practice Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery and has recently, expanded by incorporating Functional Medicine into his practice, which aims to address the root cause of illnesses rather than just focusing on symptoms. Through Functional Medicine, he aims to help patients restore balance to their core processes and to optimize the body’s natural ability to heal itself in order to prevent, halt progression or reverse disease. As a Thomasian physician, he imbibes his practice with the core values of competence, commitment, and compassion.

During his free time, Dr. Joe Yam loves to read books and travel around the world with his wife. He is also an fascinated by historical warfare and actually once dreamed to be a fighter pilot. He enjoys sharing his advocacy of health and wellness with family, friends, and colleagues in the hopes of bringing forth a change in the overall health status and thus quality of life of communities. He continues to pursue learning and is eager to help others achieve their optimal health and wellness.

General Medicine, Functional Medicine

Dr. Joanna Yamamoto, or Doc Aisa or Doc Yami as she is sometimes called, is a graduate of the University of Santo Tomas Faculty of Medicine and Surgery, with the highest distinction of Summa Cum Laude. She spent a year at the Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where she learned from some of the most brilliant minds practicing the Art and Science of Medicine.

She has been training in the field of Functional Medicine and is currently practicing along side Dr. Joe and many of the other experts in this field.

The practice of Functional Medicine aims to identify and address the root cause of illnesses rather than focusing on symptoms. She believes that through Functional Medicine, she is better able to help patients look into their overall state, assess their current lifestyle and environment, and see what practical and sustainable changes can be made to achieve optimal health and wellness.

Doc Aisa enjoys travelling, especially when she is around the serene sounds of waves by the beach. She is also an avid supporter of Dr. Joe’s advocacy of promoting health and wellness. Through this advocacy, she hopes to be able to provide people with easy, practical, and accessible tips about how to prevent disease and promote the body’s natural ability to heal itself.
